Cleary book adapted for stage
An issue-based play about male victims of domestic abuse based on a book by Navan woman Mary Cleary is being staged in Wexford this week.
'Parity of Pretence' portrays a series of monologues adapted from actual letters taken from the book 'Letters to Amen' by Ms. Cleary.
It focuses on the true life story of one man's endurance of 25 years of relentless and disturbing abuse by his wife. Amen is a national organisation, based in Navan, that helps male victims of domestic abuse.
The play, presented by Dark Window Theatre in conjunction with Ferns Diocesan Youth Service, highlights the issues surrounding male victims of domestic abuse and their fight to be heard.
'Parity of Pretence' is an original play written by Natasha O'Brien and Lisa Popplewell from Wexford, and is directed by Natasha. Dublin-based Jim Ivers is the script consultant. The cast includes John Crosbie and Irene way, as well as actors from the Abbey Theatre and Fair City. Original music was composed for the play by Cian Furlong, who has written multiple scores for feature films in Ireland.
It opens in Wexford Opera House (tomorrow) on Thursday 28th January and runs until Sunday.
